There’s are a lot of ‘em. For the most part, from my experience, from participating in Praise Dance and going to Praise Dance Conferences/Workshops etc… I felt like people make things too complex and deep for words, let alone movement. Yes, it’s about God, but for me I have a Pastor that teaches the WORD of God, plus I have a real personal relationship with God. Soooo…again, My thoughts…if I’m coming to anything Dance Centered, I want to DANCE and not be overloaded with doctrine or theology. Some unsolicited advice, if you are going to go the theology, class, seminar route (which I think is AWESOME, do what you do), ..ensure that your audience is aware..I’m just saying, let the people know. Moving on… we foster a community for Praise Dancer’s to be nourished and inspired to DANCE without being super weird or deep!

Another reason for starting Praise Dancer’s Rock is to provide and or connect dancer’s with resources to fully express themselves. Resources can include but not limited to apparel, accessories (flags, banners, or streamers), inspiration, and education (information regarding workshops, books, blogs, videos, how to guides etc.).

The last reason for starting Praise Dancer’s Rock is to provide a platform for dancers to display and share their gifts. Here is where I get deep, if you will. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead they set it on the lampstand, and give it to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven”. Matthew 5: 14 -16 in it’s entirety! Praise Dancer’s Rock is the lampstand and we pray that your light will shine for all to see and Glorify God!

Darkness can not drive out darkness, only LIGHT can do that. Hate can not drive out hate only LOVE can do that. -Dr. Martin Luther King

The Term Praise Dance:

praz (tehillah, “psalm,” “praise,” todhah, “confession” “thanksgiving,” shabhach, “to praise” “glorify,” zamar, yadhah, “to stretch out the hand,” “confess”; aineo, epaineo, (epainos):

expression through movement

Yes, I made up that definition…I prefer it over the Webster’s Dictionary definition.
I will take it one step further. Dance is Expression of oneself or faith through movement.

Ultimately, I believe we express what we believe, who we believe in, why we believe, and our relationship with God through movement.

It took me a while to come to grips with the term “Praise Dance”. I used to actually dislike the terms for some odd reason. Through my journey, I’ve come to love it. It is my belief that Praise Dance is befitting, although not all encompassing to describe the array of expressions we may express . It is sooooo many ways a dancer can express themselves. One could be telling dramatic or testimonial story through dance, you can stretch and call it praise dance but if I had to give it a term, if I wanted to call it something else, I would definitely choose, inspirational dancer, worship dancer, or expressions dance. So that’s if I had to choose..but for the most part, most people are not familiar with those terms. We for this site we will use the term Praise Dance to encompass the dancer and the many expressions.
