Take it to God in Prayer!

O what peace we  often forfeit. O what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. ( Excerpt from the song, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. )

I find this to be so true, especially during these times. What would happen if we really took ALL of our issues, problems, concerns, and thoughts to God in prayer. Something that is so simple, unimaginably is the hardest things to do at times. Slipping into the black hole of prayerlessness is the worst.

Sometimes we take our cares everywhere else BUT God. We take our cares to:

  • Family/Friends: I imagine we all have people in our lives we can call and ‘blab’ to.
  • Ourselves: We try to handle it ourselves right…we tell God what we are going to do and proceed.
  • Nowhere: We don’t do anything about it and just nonchalantly let it be what it will be…… right, wrong, or indifferent.

While it may not be anything wrong “quote”, unquote with how we handle our cares. I’m just 101% sure we would do much better taking it to God in prayer first.

Cast all your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you. I Peter 5:7

Unknowingly the past few weeks, my response to things changed. When issues would come my way, I felt how I was going to feel, and prayed about it. Now this was not my normal. Anytime I had an issue my immediate response was to call someone and let them know about the issue, fester in it, maybe go and complain to God about it and repeat. When I realized I was responding differently I started being intentional about it. What I came to realize was that 9 times out of 10, it wasn’t really a big deal. If my response was needed, because I had talked to God, when I responded, I believe…lol… I was able to respond in a Godly way.

The scripture that came to mind during my epiphany was, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. – II Chronicles 7:14

I started to see that this scripture was playing out in my life.

  • Humbling myself: putting the importance of the situation in proper perspective.
  • Praying: communicating with God first
  • Seeking His Face: Actually listening and waiting for God’s answer (For God to show up) in my situation
  • Turning from my Wicked Ways: I had to stop complaining or murmuring about it.

Take it to God in Prayer!!! The words to “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” blesses me.. hope it blesses you!

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
